  • Calm returns to refugee camp after clashes

Author : The Daily Star | Readings : 94 | Date : 2012-06-30

SIDON, Lebanon: Calm returned to the Palestinian refugee camp of Ain al-Hilweh in Sidon Saturday following clashes that left three people wounded.

Members of the Islamist group Jund al-Sham exchanged fire with an official in the Fatah movement Friday night, prompting the Palestinian Follow-Up Committee to convene for an emergency meeting.

The committee described the event as unfortunate and merely a personal dispute with no political or security dimensions, in a statement released Saturday.

It also affirmed the need to preserve stability and security in the southern camp, adding that problems should be resolved within the framework of the committee.
