  • The Palestinian refugee camps in Syria… calls for help

Author : Motasym Hamadeh | Readings : 309 | Date : 2011-08-02

Yesterday, the PLO factions sent, to the central council and the executive committee, urgent memorandums, which carried a set of righteous and instant demands, including:

-Acknowledge the martyrs of the Return March in 15/5 and 5/6/2011 in Golan by the Israeli's bullets, and consider them the martyrs of the Palestinian people. Take the administrative procedures to convert this consideration from a political side of view to the practical side. and so, monthly compensations must be paid to the martyr's families without any further delays.

-Acknowledge the injured of the Return March, provide full treatment at the expense of the PLO, and provide aid and financial compensation during treatment and recovery.

-The factions pointed that UNRWA had closed its clinics in some camps in Syria for several days, on the grounds of protecting its staff. The factions wonder how the UNRWA cares for the protection of its staff and ignores the health problems of thousands of Palestinians affected by the clinics closing. The factions asked the department of refugees affairs in PLO to demand the agency not to repeat such procedure as its badly influences the refugees situations.

-The factions of PLO demanded the Central Council and the Executive Committee, to interfere with the Palestinian Red Crescent , to generalize its clinics in the camps to compensate the shortage in the UNRWA's services.

But the most important in this all, is that the factions of the PLO ignored the reality of the Palestinians camps situations in Dar'a, Homs, Hamma, Latakia and maybe other cities. The decline in the economic life ,due to the current situation, high unemployment rates in the Camps, thousands of families lost their source of living. Even some, like in Homs, suggested that the factions provide financial aid. Although the suggestion has good intention, it doesn't tackle the problem.

The Factions should send a Dual calling:

*The first, to the core of the executive committee, the department of refugee's affairs to take responsibility to launch a global call, to raise funding in a special campaign for Palestinian refugees in Syria. Thus, distributed among the unemployed due to the current situation in Syria. In condition that the UNRWA supervise this distribution.

*The second to the UNRWA to send a call to donors, according to a plan to aid the Palestinian families during the situation in Syria.

It seems that the situation of the camps didn't receive any attention from the media. Due to the absence of private media and the dominance of the official media at first and that Palestinian didn't wish to interfere in the current situation at second. But the evolvement of the situation and the estimations that predict a long lasting situation, drives everyone who cares for the Palestinian people to put the light on the terrible situations in the Palestinian refugee camps.

This letter to the executive committee and the refugees affairs department in PLO

This letter to the general authority for Palestinian affairs in Syria.

This letter is also for UNRWA and to global human public opinion.
